About Francois Leaf Garden Design
After successfully obtaining a Garden Design diploma from the world renowned London College of Garden Design, Francois Leaf was created. Francois Leaf is directed and managed by Simone Kirkland who after working for 20+ years in the financial services industry, decided to change her career into something more green. After working as a Landscape Gardener for an award winning Grade I listed landscape in Surrey and studying at Capel Manor College for the Royal Horticultural Society exams, this sparked the desire to expand into garden design.
Why Garden Design?
From our Director, Simone Kirkland.
From an early age, I was taught to appreciate nature and the great outdoors. While this wasn't always appreciated at the time, the older I get the more excited I become, especially when visiting inspirational gardens and working outside. In my last position in the City, we had a wild meadow planting scheme that wasn't doing too well - I was itching to get outside and sort it out. That set my mind to thinking that a career in horticulture would be an interesting path to pursue. I haven't regretted the decision and continue to be enthused and eager to create beautiful gardens and landscapes for people and communities to enjoy.
Francois Leaf designs are clean, well structured spaces. Influenced by classical, geometric gardens from the 18th century and from modern day designers, such as Anouska Hemple and Luciano Giubbilei. Planting selections vary from lush and green to naturalistic planting.
What is important to Francois Leaf?
This has been a consideration for many years but is now a global concern. Biodiversity is an understanding of the complex ecosystems and how they work together. Encouraging wildlife and insects to your garden helps to support biodiversity and Francois Leaf can help make that happen.
Playing outside is fun, exciting and great for children's learning and development. Not only for the obvious health reasons but to allow all of the family to appreciate nature and learn how plants grow. There are many benefits for children who play outdoors and its lots of fun too.
It is a challenge to go plastic free in the garden but times are changing. By constantly challenging the use of plastics and striving to use ethical products and materials in the horticultural practice, producers and suppliers are being forced to think creatively and manufacture well designed, plastic free products.
Growing your own
Nurturing your own plants and vegetables is not only rewarding mentally but they taste great too! No matter how small your space, we can help you grow food for you to enjoy.
